Michelle Kennedy
This new body of work by Michelle Kennedy combines her love of wildflowers and landscapes wrapped in vibrant colour and texture, reflecting the female form. Lyrical curves, peculiar and unique, yet cohesive and binding. At a time in our history when unrest and lack of predictability shake our mental peace, Michelle's landscapes of colour and layers invite you to find comfort, positivity and whimsical joy in their feminine pictorial music. This in-depth direction brings to life Michelle’s first solo exhibition - Couleur Parfumerie.
Michelle’s art reflects her love of the Australian landscape, especially wildflowers, water systems and desert boulders. Many of the characteristics of the Australian landscape are reflected in the traits of women: resilient, enduring, strong, kind, ruthless, merciful, passionate, blossoming, and embracing. The relationship between person and nature, as most reflected in the female form and the spiritual practice of being in nature grounded in ‘presence’, are essential to her art practice. The search for that which brings peace in ‘being female’ and respected is a deep motivation.
Her artwork markings, shapes and colour illustrate a strong connection with what nurtures a positive relationship with ourselves and the world as it is, using colour to enhance optimism and a sense of security, as well as hints at an endearing sense of humour and frivolity in an era of profound instability.
Michelle Kennedy has been creating beautiful pieces for many years, with her love of art beginning as a child. Her artistic journey has included charcoal, pastels, photography and now acrylics. Breaking many of the traditional moulds of artists, she prefers to continue experimenting with styles, often favouring rich colours. Her many years of experience as a Mental Health Professional has seen her use art to de-compress and enjoy the therapy that art brings.
